Zombiles

by

Helen Scott

Helen is from the Wirral. She has written around 70 poems, each stimulated by her experiences. This one is about people who use their mobile phones perpetually.

Heads all down around me.
No faces to be found.
Hello folk! Can you hear me?
Not a flicker, not a sound.

What’s happened to these people?
Seen walking around the town,
Searching Facebook, Tik-Tok or Twitter,
They face towards the ground.

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies.
Mobiles in control,
They have lost the art of talk,
Conversations is not their goal.

Phones are used in restaurants,
Seen in cars and bars,
In homes, on trains and buses.
In their World but not in ours.

Look at those young children,
From the mere age of two,
Games to pacify and amuse them.
Wasn’t the same for me and you.

In our days of schooling,
With a satchel and a hat,
A pencil case and rubber,
And really that was that!

We went to school with tuppence,
To buy a treat at break,
But now the kids have iPhones,
What next for goodness sake!

The price of one child’s iPhone,
With all the latest tricks.
It cost his folks a fortune,
Oh! fancy that, it’s been nicked.

Little Charlie’s iPhone,
Doesn’t exist any more.
He’s lost it from his pocket,
And sobs at teacher’s door.

Smart phones have their uses,
No one can deny,
But fanatically always on them,
I really don’t know why!

Zombies, Zombies, Zombies.
Mobiles in control.
They have lost the art of talk,
Conversation is not their goal.
