Bonkers Part 1

by

Helen Scott

Helen is from the Wirral. She has written around 70 poems, each stimulated by her experiences. Most of us will share the experience of cash not being accepted these days.

Its MOT’ed, TAXed and the insurance is paid
I’ll travel by car to be free
I’ll visit the local shopping centre
But the Council Traffic Wardens are waiting to get me

So parked the car and looked for a meter,
No cash accepted, whoever you are.
Contactless card only, it’s truly baloney,
What tales do you have when parking your car.

We’ll go for a jaunt and take a walk in the park,
Paying to park, I became quite frustrated.
I pity the elderly who are not all au fait,
It’s about time ‘Contactless cards only’ rules are rejected.

Wait just a moment another option is presented
Download yet another App
You can pay with your phone, the instruction do say
But the mobile signal here is just crap.

Eating out in a restaurant one evening.,
We asked if we could view the menu.
No menu here Sir, please use the Q.R. Code,
So amazed, we left for another venue.

I took a flight to Crete last week,
With a Budget flight hospitality,
But when I came to buy a drink,
They dashed my joviality.

With sterling in my pocket,
And Euro’s close at hand.
No cash payment on this flight now,
Says the attendant with card machine in hand.

No problem say’s I, I have a pre paid Master Card,
It’s accepted in every land.
On this flight, it will not do,
But a debit card would be grand.

I tend not to take my debit card,
When travelling to a far away place.
I keep my private bank details,
At home where they are safe.

Fortunately I also have my Credit Card,
I thought she’d show some mercy.
But no, she said that will also not do,
I think you will be going thirsty.

So you thought you were the valued customer,
But in fact, they could not care a jot.
The Budget flight’s convenience is paramount,
Whether it suits you or not.
