Woodstock
A gathering of half a million music lovers.
For three days of peace and music in ’69.
On Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel.
32 bands in rain and little sunshine.
No ticket booths or fences made it a free.
Ritchie Havens was chosen to open the show.
Joan Baez’ ‘We Shall Overcome’ closed day one.
Dylan wasn’t even invited, which was a blow.
Day two had the Grateful Dead and The Who.
It all ended with the Star Spangled Banner.
The great Jimi Hendrix at his creative best.
Praise must be given to the event’s planner.
A Joni Mitchell song truly marked the event.
Woodstock - we are stardust, we are golden
‘Peace and love man’ is a great thing to say.
But sadly that saying now is a rather old’n.
