My Postman at Christmas

I see him struggling up the hill,
Ten minutes later he’s struggling still.
It’s icy under foot and snow is falling.
Doing a job in weather that’s appalling,
Regardless he retains a cheery outlook.
He’s indeed one of a kind in my book.
Always the same time, always polite,
Tells me if he think’s it’ll rain tonight.
Happy to chew the cud for a while,
Says cheerio and leaves with a smile.
In his shorts whatever the weather,
But never seen him go hell-for-leather.
He’s a key part of my daily routine,
Very dependable, always keen.
Still the same despite a Christmas load.
A pleasure to see him walking up the road.
A Christmas tip he’ll be sure to receive,
And very good wishes on New Year’s Eve.
