Life Goes On
Why aren’t they crestfallen and bereft?
Why won’t they mourn for a year or more?
I have fallen off the perch and left this mortal coil.
They should be picking themselves up from the floor.
They say that life goes on but surely a pause is in order.
Not least to validate my importance and standing.
I want them to weep and wail to acknowledge my worth.
To say long speeches, raise a glass and be upstanding.
But should I really envisage this show of recognition?
We are just a grain of sand on the beach of time.
A passing breeze; a mere speck in the cosmos.
On the team when the referee blows for full time?
Best to be remembered when still playing the game.
Not when just the score is in the history books.
Help people to enjoy and appreciate your existence.
Try not to be a nobody that someone overlooks.
