Leaving for Mars
I’m leaving our planet that’s spinning in space.
I’m heading off to a far, far, far distant place.
I’m going to Mars, 140 million miles.
Lots of terror and maybe some smiles.
I hope to God I can take the strain.
I may never, ever see you again.
I’m an adventurous guy and one that’s unsung.
First stop - orbit the moon ready to be far-flung.
All systems steady - three, two, one - here we go.
The pressure is intense - too late now to say no.
The acceleration is pounding on my chest.
When I was a child, who’d have guessed?
These straps are tight, the rumble titanic.
Keep focused, keep calm, don’t panic.
There’s the separation, I’m on my way.
Another step for mankind is what I’ll say.
No turning back, onwards and upwards.
Remember the human race is moving forwards.
Nine months from now I’ll be there.
No doubt reciting the Lord’s Prayer.
Preparing for the planets to align again.
Unless of course I decide to remain.
