Falling Out of Bed

I awoke, startled on the bedroom floor.
I was laying between the duvet and the door.
My wife stared quizzically from the bed.
I’d obviously fallen out, mid-zed.

I can recall the dream in which I was immersed.
I was playing Sunday League football, not a first.
An opposing player moved the ball with a flick.
Just as I was taking a mighty kick.

My wounds needed licking, my pride was dented.
As I sat on the bedroom carpet quite disoriented.
My night’s sleep was well and truly disturbed.
My wife telling me my dreams have to be curbed.

It isn’t the first time I’ve fallen out of bed.
Occasionally the lamp and clock have been spread.
Each time my dream has been competition based,
And from my bed I’ve been displaced.

Maybe I need to sleep away from the edge.
Perhaps I could use the pillow as a wedge.
An option of course is to have cot sides on my bed.
Any of those things should prevent another sore head.
