Halloween
Cobwebs made from cotton wool.
A skeleton lifeless on a garden gate.
A giant black spider climbing a wall.
Four zombies standing up straight.
A black wreath in a row of pumpkins.
Three ghosts hanging in a tree.
Witches round a steaming cauldron.
A drooling black dog looking at me.
These are all in neighbour’s gardens,
Along with webs of coloured lights.
With inviting signs for Trick or Treat.
Frightening kids on Halloween night.
Children brave an unnerving driveway,
To be greeted by a creaking door.
It hides a hand-held tin of sweets.
As ‘Trick or Treat’ the kids implore.
Courage rising they move next door.
To where some zombies line the path.
Bravely the knock and then stand back.
In case that door is hiding a psychopath.
