The Bravest of Flowers

The bravest flowers are crocuses and snowdrops.
As pioneers they force themselves skyward.
Into cold, damp soil and the inclement weather.
To those flowers I’d gladly give a knighthood.

They know for certain they have to endure it alone.
Gorgeous, they stand sturdily against the odds.
Showing other spring flowers they are the front runners.
To me these flowers are quite simply the Gods.

Oh how reliable, strong, yet gentle they are.
Like Salvation Army soldiers they have drive.
Showing fortitude, bringing colour and expectation.
Until their job is done, when reinforcements arrive.
