12. A Liverpool Anthem

Oh say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
The Cunard Building so proud and so white.
Meet the four lads who set the world on fire.
At Lime Street there’s Doddy, a Liverpool Squire.

The River Mersey and John Lennon Airport.
A tall tower in the sky.
Docks the length of the river.
A city we love, everyone will testify.

The Liver Birds look over our port with pride,
Watching ships on the Mersey soothingly glide.
Regenerated, our City is an attraction for many.
It’s come a long way from the time of Her Benny.

Two cathedrals and three graces.
Theatres galore and more.
Two tunnels, two footy clubs
And both with a rich folklore.

Our teams are revered all over the wide world.
In grounds all over Europe our flags are unfurled.
Backing Everton or Liverpool, it matters not one jot.
We’re scousers, proud and happy with our lot.

In my Liverpool home we sing.
The Leaving of Liverpool comes next.
Ferry Across the Mersey is crooned.
Our vocal chords we've flexed.

God save our gracious team, long live our noble team.
God save our team. Send them victorious,
Happy and glorious, long to reign over us.
God save our team.

We've got comedians coming out of our ears.
Song after song about our great city.
We're a generous people who have your back.
A place where everyone is witty.

Standing in town you’re forgiven for being tearful,
As you watch those scousers, all quite cheerful.
Something in their DNA makes a scouser distinctive.
They’re quick witted, generous and so instinctive.

Of course, we stand no nonsense.
We'll protest if things are wrong
Justice for the 97 is evidence
Of us all standing strong.

A Scouser will always give you a helping hand.
If you’re in need, shoulder to shoulder they’ll stand.
Scousers are stimulating, brash and exciting.
With their backs to the wall they come out fighting.

What a wonderful City we live in.
Great sights and memories to behold.
Great people, famous stars
And a rich history I am told.

An anthem for Liverpool is just what we need.
A celebration of the scouse blood that we bleed.
It’s Scouse not English that we learned in school,
So let’s all stridently chant, ‘We Love You Liverpool.’
