Willy, My Hard of Hearing Friend

My friend’s hearing is worse than most.
In fact I’d say he’s as deaf as a post.
I can bellow and gesticulate to get his attention,
But his vacant stare just adds to the tension.

He can turn his aids up and turn them down.
It makes not a ha'p'orth of difference though.
He complains of background noise and squealing,
And his continual ‘pardons’ make that tension grow.

Having said all this, he’s the nicest of friends.
He’ll go out of his way to help you in any way.
He’s a great support and a really funny guy.
And he’d help you more if he could hear what you say.

You might say I’m being politically incorrect.
Of course my poem is simply an amusing missive.
Willy says his deafness is something to laugh about.
In all reality, he’d agree, I’m not being at all dismissive.
