The Black Plague

If you think the Covid-19 Pandemic was merciless think again.
The Black Death in the 14th century was worse.
That Bubonic Plague killed half of Europe.
Bacteria spread by fleas, living on rats was the curse.

Known as the Great Pestilence it devastated the world.
Financial decline, social and economic disruption.
Positive outcomes however from this time of woe,
Were medical developments and public health eruption.

Its origin is unconfirmed but China is a suspect.
Untreated, four in five died within eight days.
Black spots gave away signs of this terrible infection,
Plus, aching joints, nausea, vomiting, a feeling of malaise.

One of the most fatal Pandemics in human history.
Up there with the great famine of 1315,
The 1918 influenza epidemic and the holocaust.
An event in human history we wish we’d never seen.
