Thank You Pink Floyd
The first two verses are from Grantchester Meadows by Pink Floyd
Icy wind of nights be gone this is not your domain.
In the sky a bird was heard to cry.
Misty morning whisperings and gentle stirring sounds,
Belied the deathly silence that lay all around.
Hear the lark and harken to the barking of the dog fox,
Gone to ground.
See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing to the water,
And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees,
Laughing as it passes through the endless summer, making for the sea.
In Grantchester Meadows my imagination was formed.
Dreaming of lying in the grass and being transformed.
From boy to butterfly, to swallow and swift.
It was so, so easy; my mind would drift.
Floyd’s song painted a picture in my mind’s eye.
My fertile young self eager to comply.
My breathing merged with the river’s sound.
I can still hear now the bark of the hound.
Muted colours save for the Kingfisher’s blue.
Swiftly, close to the river’s surface it flew.
The swish of the trees in the gentle breeze,
While there I lay completely at ease.
Thank you Floyd for aiding my mental health.
You didn’t know but you added to my wealth.
Music can now take me to all sorts of places,
And I’m forever grateful for all it embraces.
