Let's Say Hello
‘Yer alrite’ is what we say in the Pool,
But it’s ‘Ay up, mi duck’ in Stoke, as a rule.
They are quite easy to distinguish.
‘How are you’ of course is BBC English.
Alright, my luvver" is a phrase from West Country.
It’s used there by all and sundry.
‘Howay’ they say in Newcastle.
‘Howay the lads’ watching footy, if they dazzle.
Its ‘What's the craic?’ In Northern Ireland,
And ‘How's it gaun?’ In sunny Scotland.
Whatever the dialect it matters not.
A generous ‘hello’ just hits the spot.
