Ferries on the Mersey

Started by monks, used still by punks and drunks.
Billions have traversed since the very first.
Crossing the Mersey by ferry sang Gerry.
Clear of the sandbank, mind the gangplank.
Ropes take the strain and then we’re off again.
Our ferries became royals for their WWI toils.
The Pier Head to Woodside we love the ride.
Commuting or exploring it’s never boring.
Landing at Woodside is never a downside.
Observed by Liver Birds, used by lovebirds.
Heading for New Brighton our lives to brighten.
