Alan the Wind Turbine
Alan the Wind Turbine

Alan the wind turbine was a lonely little soul,
Not being a member of a windfarm you see.
Stuck in a farmer’s field lighting the cow shed,
When he’d much rather be in the North Sea.

He’s an inshore turbine but eager for more.
He wants storm force winds to turn his blade.
So he can feel he’s making a contribution,
He’s desperate to be seen as top grade.

So, travelling by night Alan headed for the coast.
At dawn he stood very still wherever he would be.
He made the city of Aberdeen four days later,
On his quest to be corporate in the sea.

There, Alan was faced with a big problem.
How was he going to get to the off shore farm.
He couldn’t slip aboard a deep-sea fishing boat.
That would no doubt set off an alarm.

A much more ingenious plan was needed,
If Alan was to succeed in his quest.
So he set his blade to 12 O’clock dead,
And put on a length of pipe like a vest.

He was loaded on a turbine installation vessel.
To the wind farm 20 miles away they set sail.
Approaching the site Alan girded his loins,
And slid off the ship in a storm force gale.

He wasn’t missed by the captain or crew,
As he bobbed up and down in the North Sea.
His main task now was to shed his pipe vest,
And sink some roots into the sea bed like a tree.

He got perpendicular and slid to the briny sea’s floor.
With his head above water and his blade turning.
He looked round and saw friendly wind turbines,
At last, at peace in the place he’d been yearning.

This story is about change and challenge,
And winning despite quite slim chances.
Never be satisfied if you want to be different.
Think of Alan, overcoming his circumstances.
