Stuffed hearts and liver.
Thick pink blancmange.
Yes, it’s a school dinner.

Mash and watery carrots,
Wallpaper paste or semolina?
A few cold chips and gravy,
The colour of my Dad’s Cortina.

Suet pudding and custard,
Rissoles and spam fritters.
Cold water in plastic beakers.
Sprouts to give you the jitters.

Frogspawn, or is it tapioca?
Cabbage overcooked and soggy.
Rubbery Bakewell Tart
You wouldn’t give a doggie.
